Theme Development

Theme defines the creative vision of a yearbook. It involves forethought and creativity, capturing the story of the school year before it happens. Students took inventory of what defined the campus, the culture and the year to understand the story they wanted to tell. Then, they strategized how to communicate the story visually and verbally. When done right, the theme could (and did) win awards and set the tone of the book.

The Process

After creating moodboards of cohesive images that inspired them, teams came up with two theme concepts for the yearbook consisting of a title, fonts, color scheme, description and cover image. They then chose one to develop further with a ten-sentence theme copy package and a formal title. They then presented these projects for a panel with critique and feedback.
